Berg

Architecture

Berg is derived from the form of the Iceberg and the german word for mountain. The composition of Berg is inspired by the freeze-thaw cycle that these features of the landscape go through as a result of winter. Berg is an armature that will change with the differing winter climate of Toronto, becoming more shelter-like as ice and snow build up on the steel mesh and then opening back up again during days of sun exposure and melt. The swept profiles of Berg encourage users to engage the structure by laying on it’s gradual slopes or climbing it’s steep faces, furthermore users can pack snow onto the external frame to create their own patterns, shelter or design.
